Reflection on Lesson 2

This week was super awesome! There was a lot of spiritual matters filled into the discussions and it really put a new perspective on what we should be doing. [LDS talks at the bottom of this post] I really believe that as we go through life, there will be unexpected things that arise, like handicapped people. They may be unexpected, but they will change your life. I’m excited to see what more the course has to offer considering understanding the different people that walk into our lives.

A lot of the talks describe how we should treat one another. That’s just it. The “Golden Rule” states that we should treat others the way we want to be treated. Based on that idea, how should we treat others that are “different” than we are? That is the exact question we will come back to at the end of the semester. But for now, let’s make it all a challenge to let those that have handicaps to teach us something new. Even if you are the teacher, you don’t know everything.

This is the coolest part about the class. We get to understand and get a small taste of how it would be like to have those handicapped features. I believe that learning is the first step to understanding.

“With all thy getting, get understanding” -Gordon B. Hinckley

Just the fact that we get to look at individual cases and are given opportunities to learn, we get to step into a new light and learn about how others learn differently. That is what makes me excited about this course, it is exciting to see that even though we are all different, we are all the same inside. It is amazing to see that our prophets and leaders of the church have prophesied to us that our hearts will be healed with kindness. No bitterness, nor rudeness, not even pride can get past the opportune moment of kindness for one another.

This is the end of Lesson 2. Lesson 3 is filled with more opportunities for learning and growing. Lesson 1, was of course the introduction and was where everyone got to learn about each other. It is amazing that even though this is an online course, we are all able to connect on a different level. Technology is crazy and can be used for the goodness of the soul. Let us all press on towards the many opportunities this class has to offer.
